Message Buonasera people,

I would like to try to install Eyebrowse on nagoya.apache.org (which is
a non-mission critical apache machine).

Before I start, I have a few questions:

1) the messages imported from a MBOX archive are moved into the database
or kept in the archive? [so, do I need to keep those MBOX on the same
machine, or can I download them from the outside, push them into
eyebrowse and then remove them?]

2) is eyebrowse a moving target (at least from the database-schema side
of things) or can I rely on it, more or less? I wouldn't want to have to
recreate the database every two weeks. I totally understand eyebrowse is
not final so no effort for back compatibility will be provided, that's
the reason why I'm asking before I even start :)

3) the final goal is to handle *all* the apache mail archive... I don't
even know how big that is... but I'm pretty sure it's not small :).
There is any architectural reason why eyebrowse should not scale up to
that amount of messages?

4) instead of having to run cron scripts to keep the MBOX feeds floating
in, would it be possible to have eyebrowse behave as a mail server? I
mean: having the MTA (qmail, postfix, sendmail, you name it) *feed*
eyebrowse directly instead of going thru the MBOX files. If that was
possible, we could simply setup a virtual "eyebrowse at apache dot org" account
that would forward email to the appropriate MTA front-end.

One simple possibility is to use JAMES (see jakarta.apache.org/james/)
as the MTA and write a simple mailet that uses JDBC to save stuff into
the database and might also incrementally update the lucene index, so
that we wouldn't have the latency of time-dependent scripts.

What do you think?
