Message Hi people,

I have a couple of concerns:

1) the most important use of mail archives is the ability to point
others to messages and things that already happened. In order to do
this, the URL should normally be less than 72 chars, otherwise mail
clients will 'cut' the address on more than one line, breaking the link.
In my experience, this reduces *drastically* the chance of that linked
message to be read.

Now, our message URL are like this

http://nagoya.apache.org:8080/eyebrowse/ReadMsg?listName=tomcat-dev at jakarta dot apache.org&msgNo=57

and I'm pretty sure your email client will not allow you to click thru
it and even copy/paste it would be harder.

Now, let us suppose that we use mod_webapp, we can get rid of the 8080
port so we get

http://nagoya.apache.org/eyebrowse/ReadMsg?listName=tomcat-dev at jakarta dot apache dot org&msgNo=57

still too long, the ideal URI space should be something like

 http://mail-archive.apache.org/jakarta/tomcat-dev/57

Should we do this with mod_rewrite or should we use mod_webapp to mount
the webapp to the / folder and then use the 'URI-space parsing
capabilities' built into eyebrowse? What do you think?

I consider the feature of having 'clear' URI spaces for retrieval of
messages, very important!

2) where are Pagination controls?

For example, the page

http://nagoya.apache.org:8080/eyebrowse/BrowseList?listName=jmeter-dev@jakarta.apache.org&by=date&from=2002-03-01&to=2002-03-31&first=1&count=75

shows 1 thru 20 messages, how do I get to the next 20 without rewriting
the URL by hand?

3) currently, there is only one flat list of lists. Is it planned to
have a way to hierarchically organize them? something like a tree
instead of a flat list? Would it be possible to allow the different
parts of such a tree to have different velocity templates?

I would like this to allow

 /apache.org
              /jakarta
                        /tomcat
                               /tomcat-dev
                               /tomcat-user
                        /ant
                               /ant-dev
                               /ant-user
              /xml
              /httpd
              ...

where it's possible to indicate the different 'views' depending on the
location in the tree.

Is this currently possible? if not, is it planned? if not, are you
against having this feature?
